I am the DRE at a multicultural parish in Hayward, CA--about 3500 families. We offer formation in English (Grades K-12) and Spanish (Grades 1-4). Each month parents gather for formation (some gather more than that)--we usually get about 400+ to participate.
I guess you would describe me as a veteran since I have been ministering in some capacity for over 40 years--as a catechist, catholic school teacher, catechetical leader (DRE, coordinator), pastoral associate. My husband and I have 2 young adult sons, one of whom is teaching in our catholic school and is helping coordinate youth ministry at our parish and another local one. The wonder of parenting is that some of the suggestions I give to parents did not work at my house--the guys kept (and keep) me honest and real, seeking diverse ways to animate.
