According to both the GDC and the NDC, there are 6 tasks of catechsis.

This week we look at the first: promoting knowledge of the faith.

How, specifically, does your program promote knowledege of the faith? Do you have a creative model? Do you engage parents and sponsors in a way that works really well? Are your catechsits out of this world?

I'm so bad at checking this site. Glad you are focusing on the six tasks. We are making them the topic of our Fall and Spring catechist gatherings at the parish.

We encouraged the catechists to:
* Look to your Teacher Manual to the scopte and sequence and key a focus on the faith words, prayers, Scripture, CCC, saints of the lesson
* look at what are they doing for their own faith development– Catechist Formation, adult formation, reading. Can only give from what you have.

We also encouraged an ERERER approach:
*Emphasize board, flashcards,
*Repeat (Madison Avenue message)
*Engage-hands on, memory aids
*Repeat- in the lesson
*Enjoy-make it a game not a test learning prayers, baseball, family feud
Repeat- throughout the year, learn and drop or learn and keep

We have flashcards for faith words, and in second grade for mass responses and the items used in our liturgy (we even have mini altar sets to match them to) We put them in plastic storage bags and have four sets so the kids can quiz each other.
We encourage review games to keep coming back and reinforcing what they have learned- Classroom jeopardy, family fued and otehrs
