I have also found the American Catholic site helpful
The weekly radio retreat was a treat to down load to my i-pod. I listened to it on a long ride to a meeting.
There are also really practical "activities" that do not take alot of time or can be put into your every day life easily and serve to make up mindful of the path we are on.
the address for their advent resources is

The pray-as-you-go podcasts help me take 15 minutes each morning. You can listen from the website or on an mp3. It's worth a try!

Great suggestions. What else are people doing for Advent? It's one of my favorite seasons of the year. I'd like to do something special for my blog readers (http://anunslife.org) but am not sure what yet.

The Holy Spirit gave me these words as I was journaling in May 1983.

"Jesus, renew your Spirit in me and let me be your image anew."

That is my prayer upon waking and throughout the day. It became the name of my image and communication company.

Great question and I enjoyed reading such inspired responses! I can relate to everyone's choice in some way and it is very meaningful to learn how others appreciate certain prayers, gives me a new perspective.

My favorite prayer is from the beautifully simple, yet unfathomably rife Chaplet of Divine Mercy, especially the mantra "for the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world." So soothing, understandable and powerful! And similarly as is done at Mass "Eternal Father, I offer you the body and blood, soul and divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world."

Speaking of this, I want to make it my mission to teach all children and families this phenomenal prayer. Jesus told St. Faustina it is the last hope for sinners and I marvel to think that any hardened sinner, such as me, who recites it just once with some measure of openness will receive graces! Again, it is so wonderfully understandable and "theologically light" in terms of focused upon God's infinite love and mercy, that I truly believe children embrace this devotion/mantra in a special way. The Rosary of course is primary and precious and I don't mean to take anything away from it but just to ultimately work in conjunction. Children and adults understand Divine Mercy better imho.

And one of my favorite communal prayers is penitential, the Confiteor, "I confess to Almighty God..." I love it primarily because again I truly understand what I am praying! Every word and sentiment I can honestly say I feel and reflect upon in that very moment. It makes perfect sense in every way and comes from my heart. I am sorry to say that is not always the case with all the responses at Mass. Yes, I understand them but it unfortunately might not be something that I am 100% praying from the heart, aside from petitions, Our Father, etc... It is my own fault, I realize, that at times I choose to respond robotically but I fear I am not alone in this, at least with laypeople in general, so I thought I would mention it here.

Funny but I can also relate to this with hymns when I cantor. Aside from the responsorial and responses, I read every word in hymns because I can't even imagine memorizing them, aside from a traditional Amazing Grace, Ave Maria, carols, or similar, and I don't want to mess up lol. Our last song was a spiritual "Soon, Very Soon" and it is still running through my head. I really enjoyed singing this and felt the simple, understandable words so deeply, smiled and felt the rhythm! Sadly, that's not always the case. My dearest priest friend always remarked about hymns he couldn't understand or fully appreciate. "Fly my sweet accord" is one of his favorite lyrical enigmas!

Wow, that is a prayer that I too know and that runs deep in my soul. I have rarely heard others pray it yet it seems so, so vital.

I googled it but cant find it and can't seem to remember it, if I ever knew it at all. Can you tell it to me or give me a link?
